Fresno County, CA — July 2, 2025 — Yosemite Sequoia Resource Conservation & Development Council (Y/S RC&DC) is proud to announce the launch of a new public awareness campaign made possible by a grant from the Teichert Foundation. Designed to increase awareness and reduce wildfire risk, these eye-catching billboards are placed in high-traffic corridors across the Southern Sierra region, delivering one clear message: “You’re in wildfire country – no open flames.”

This campaign targets both residents and tourists traveling through fire-prone regions and features custom-designed artwork developed in collaboration with the Sierra Nevada Alliance and creative firm Brontosaurus LLC.

Billboard locations and display dates:

  • Highway 41 (Digital Bulletin) – South of Friant Road (June 30 – July 27, 2025)

  • State Route 140 & Watts Corner – Poster board on southwest side (June 30 – August 24, 2025)

  • State Route 198, 1.5 mi. west of McAuliff – Poster board on north side (July 14 – August 24, 2025)

“We are excited to expand the reach of the Take Care Sierra message to the Southern Sierra. An estimated 85–90% of wildfires in California are caused by human activity. We believe that consistent, direct, and place-based messaging can drive awareness and behavioral change,” said Erin Capuchino, Executive Director of Y/S RC&DC. “Helping residents and visitors alike understand how we act determines how fire behaves.”

Social Media Contest: Spot the Signs, Share, and Win!

As part of the awareness campaign, Y/S RC&DC is also launching a community photo challenge on social media. Participants can win prizes by:

  • Snapping a photo of any of the three billboards

  • Tagging @ysrcanddcouncil and using hashtag #TakeCareSierra

  • Being entered into a drawing at the end of the campaign

Bonus Prize: The first person to post photos of all three billboard locations (and tag @ysrcanddcouncil) will win a special grand prize!
